Week of October 28, 2019

I hope everyone has had a nice week! Thank you to all who came in for a conference. Students were excited to hear that they were doing well.

In writing, we are starting to finish up our personal narratives. Students will be coming home with their published stories next week! This week we focused on the editing process and discussed how to peer edit. Students did a wonderful job helping their classmates edit and were giving them thoughtful suggestions. I am excited to see the progress students made from their benchmarks to their published writing.

In reading, we continued with our books clubs and had some more thoughtful discussions on our books. This week our focus was on plot and recognizing the actions characters take to solve the main problem. We also learned about the RACE strategy and how we use this strategy to respond to texts. We did a shared write with our mentor text, The Butterfly by Patricia Polacco. It is a wonderful picture book to teach about WWII.

In science we talked about two different types of plants, angiosperms and gymnosperms and discussed how one reproduces. We will begin our soil unit next week and learn about they different types of soil!

Have a great weekend!
