Dear Families, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Last week in Grade 5 we had a special science activity on Wednesday. Students met with a group of SIEMENS workers in the Makerspace and discussed the topic of physical science. Students worked in groups to experiment with different materials and discuss the physical and chemical changes of the objects. It was a great hands-on activity for all! I will share photos in a separate post.
In reading, students read diligently in their book club books and had discussions on the characters in the story character traits. Students also compared and contrasted how the characters in their story handled the challenges they faced. Students will be finishing their books today in reading and will have their final book club meeting tomorrow to discuss the book as a whole and determine a theme for the story!
In writing, we did a couple of RACE open responses based on the characters in our books. I am really starting to see students grow as writers! We also read a Time For Kids magazine and within the magazine there was an article on donating old cellphones to help with deforestation. Students then filled out a graphic organizer where they had to prove or persuade a classmate to donate their old cellphone. Students used the magazine and the Internet to prove their reasons. We will continue working on these this week!
There is no spelling test this week due to the short week. I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday weekend!
Thank you for all that you do! Happy Thanksgiving!
