Week of November 4th and 11th

Dear Families, I hope everyone is doing well! I can't believe the holiday's are fast approaching! The past two weeks have been busy in Room 101. Last week we celebrated Friendship Week and last Wednesday was World Kindness Day. We got together with our first grade buddies and listened to a story called the The Kindness Quilt by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Students then discussed what kindness was to them and drew a picture on a sticky-note to create our own kindness quilt! A picture of our work is shown below. Students were such great role models for their first grade buddies and really helped their buddy think about different ways they can be kind. SO proud of all!

In writing we celebrated our work with personal narratives and did a gallery walk so everyone could get the opportunity to read their classmates stories. After reading a someone's story, we gave the writer one compliment and one goal for their next story. Once our gallery walk was completed students looked through all their compliments and goals, and created some goals for their next personal narrative. I hope all families were able to read their child's final draft of their personal narrative! If not, please let me know and I will send home another copy with your child.

In science, we wrapped up our plant unit and students had their test this past Friday. This week we will dive into our Ecosystems unit and discuss the movement of matter in ecosystems and how producers, consumers, decomposers play an important role in our environment.

In reading, we are about halfway through with our book club groups! Students are really enjoying their books and having thoughtful, "ping-pong," discussions. My hope is that we will finish our books before Thanksgiving break!
